X-Men: Apocalypse Movie Review (Spoiler-Free)

Spoiler-Free review of the 20th Century FOX film X-Men: Apocalypse, directed by Bryan Singer and starring James McAvoy (Professor Charles Xavier), Michael Fassbender (Magneto) and Oscar Isaac (Apocalypse).  Overall, the movie is good not great.  There was a very nice duality between a heartwarming introduction with the X-Men and a very ominous build-up to the main threat who is Apocalypse and his four horsemen.  Unfortunately, the film dropped in quality somewhere around the third act.  The resolution was lackluster and it was more than apparent that a lot was cut from the theatrical release.

This film is the sequel to the 2014 comic book film X-Men: Days of Future Past.  This film adapts one of the most powerful and dangerous X-Men villains in history.  Isaac portrays the mutant villain Apocalypse who believes that only the strong will survive his cleansing of the Earth.

With Apocalypse’s first onscreen appearance, comes the rebooting of several X-Men members:  Cyclops, Jean Grey, Nightcrawler, Angel, Storm and to a degree, Psylocke.  Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Rose Byrne (Moira McTaggert), Evan Peters (Quicksilver) and Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) all reprise their roles from their previous X-Men film appearances.
